The Good Ship Delta Rain

Captain Leona Shakespeare

A Cosmopolitan with a physical appearance of that of a black woman in her mid 40’s, she has a prosthetic leg earned from her career as a Lancer. Forced out of piloting by a concerned older brother’s pleas that her next sortie could be her last she changed career tracks to the Union Navy’s spacefleet. In particular, she has established for herself a long career troubleshooting pirate raids on interstellar shipping lanes out by the Long Rim where few other Union ships dare to tread. She has earned a reputation of being stern but fair, neither bloodthirsty nor cowardly. Many privateers that she’s fought in the past have lived to both tell the tale and toast drinks in her name; through various backchannels they have wound up with new careers that utilize their skills for violence, intimidation, mech piloting, or space travel in different, more positive outlets.

Science Officer Lance Shakespeare

Captain Leona’s older brother, the bespectacled and put-upon science specialist of the Delta Rain. He absolutely loathes violence and expressly joined Union for the chance to utilize his scientific knowhow in the field of quantum nano-particles to do some real good in the galaxy’s Arm of Orion. In his eyes, he has instead been forced to research newer, better weapons for Union and its mech pilots. It was Lance’s influence that led to Leona departing the battlefield for a slightly safer, further out profession. High-strung and tightly wound, Lance appears to be younger than his sister by a good decade due to his joining Union as a Cosmopolitan much earlier in life. Their assignment together was part fortune and part bureaucratic favoritism- the mysterious Administrator in charge of their placement seems to feel that the two balance each other out in some way.

Gunnery Officer Bradley Rosewater

A proudly Jewish Diasporan who was convinced to join up with Union after a chance encounter with an Administrator as a chance to see the galaxy and bring it some lasting peace. Equal parts poet and warrior, a career as a boxer and marksman has led to rapid advancement due to the trust he instills in his crew. Bradley once spent a tour of duty among a crew of Sparri Diasporans and learned to appreciate some of the other faiths and martial cultures in the system. Despite or because of this, he loathes mercenaries, particularly those of Mirrorsmoke. Once a Lancer himself, keeps his mech’s NHP dubbed Truth around in his station, mounted in a beautiful floral decorated case. Wants to see Snowblind shine.

Chief Engineer Bonabel Lopez

A laid-back tech specialist with a high fondness for NHPs and AI, Bonabel is a walking danger zone. Treating their machine compatriots as allies, confidants, and friends has led to more than one disaster on her previous ships, albeit none that ever touched a hair on her head. More at home in an engine room or electronic warfare suite’s controls, they drum on their control panels and make music with their digital comrades. The NHP that pilots the Delta Rain and operates other basic functions, for their part, adores Bonabel and is tremendously loyal. It does not offer a name to any who ask, merely requesting that the inquirers leave it to its close friends and address it as NHP or Delta. Both get along well with Stray, even if Stray doesn’t feel otherwise.

Chief Medical Officer Blaze Fielding

A jaded but understanding older Cosmopolitan who has been there, done that, and acts as mediator among the crew when arguments break out, particularly between Marc Mossbach and Bonabel Lopez. The type of person who misspent their younger years trying to reach enlightenment through drugs, travel, research, and contact with adherents of RA, Aun evangelists, and Horizon Collective activists. If you’re going to try some Outer Rim stimulants to pilot your mech at an increase of 8.3% efficiency, let Blaze test it in their lab first. Very fond of Blink and respects their medical expertise, which does not come lightly.

Chef Marc Mossbach SSC SPY BASTARD

As he would proudly tell you, an NHP cannot cook food for you. Printers are best suited for non- organic materials, and you should leave those to the experts. Marc is an ex Harrison Armory vet, an anti-transhumanist with anthrochauvinist leaning tendencies, but he’s also the finest cook you’ve ever tried the food of within Union mess halls. Often tries to engage Bonabel Lopez and Oracle in arguments about NHPs and SSC’s projects.
